Guide for parents of children diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder. Examines autism in its many forms (PDD, High-Functioning autism, Asperger's Disorder, and other neurological disorders that effect the development of normal social, communication, & relationships). Covers the range of symptoms, possible causes, assessment, typical deficits, and what to do after the initial diagnosis. The intervention should be two-fold. It should address the immediate needs of the family but within the framework of the long term goal of adult independence. Discusses the Relational Developmental Assessment and its use in establishing the child's needs and pinpointing his strengths & challenges in the areas of organization, collaboration, conversation and making friends. | |
