Teacher manual for first grade Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies (PALS). After the initial training period, PALS is conducted three days each week. All students in the class are paired. The higher-performing students in each pair is the Coach and the other student is the Reader. In the Sounds and Words lessons, the Reader reads first. In Partner Reading, the Coach always reads first. Pairs are re-assigned about every four weeks. Sounds and Words sessions focus on phonological awareness and decoding skills. Speed Game involves timed reading. In Partner Reading, a pair reads a book four times. The teacher-directed portions are scripted. Manual has reproducible lessons. | |
