Presents a memoir of a one year social experiment in which teen author Maya Van Wagenen followed a 1950's popularity guide, written by former teen model Betty Cornell. She tries out the author's advise in order to boost her popularity in middle school (eight grade in Brownsville, TX). One of the best lessons she learns is about how to talk to and understand the people around her. The real-life results are painful, funny, and include an unexpected surprise-meeting with Betty Cornell herself. AR 5.0 Lexile 730 IL 6-10. | |
