When Aninku and Pepicek travel to the village to earn money to buy milk for their sick mother, they are befriended by three intelligenttalking animals who help them overcome their fears. The trio and 300children help them defeat the villain (vaguely resembles Hitler.) Allegorical tale based on a Czech opera created by Hans Krasa and Adolf Hoffmeister in 1938. The opera was performed by the children of Terezin, the Nazi concentration camp. Picture book for older readers, illustrated by Maurice Sendak. | |
